Where it fits
Malabrigo Sock is a super fine-weight yarn (CYC 1). Its standard put-up gives 402 metres per 100 g, which is the figure to use when comparing it with another yarn. The recommended needle range is 2.25–3.25 mm. The manufacturer's gauge is 32 sts / 10 cm.
Superwash wool is machine washable, but it will still stretch under its own weight when wet. Dry flat and avoid a hot tumble dryer.
Substitution notes
Match by length and gauge band before anything else. A replacement within roughly 10% of 402 m per 100 g will usually land in the same fabric territory; a larger gap means you should recalculate the project quantity and swatch again. Fibre composition matters too: the blend's behaviour after blocking is as important as its stitch gauge.
